All pretty frustrating really but hopefully I'll find a couple of winners to turn it around today. There are some good tipsters on the site that make me look very ordinary, the link is a the bottom of the page.

On a personal note, I'll try and build a bank today - went to Gundagai yesterday for Snake Gully Cup day to watch some horses go around but couldn't get a winner. Hopefully I'll have a better day today.

Trust everyone had a great week,

Best of luck on the punt.

p.s. well done to Joe Cada and his win in the WSOP, great effort for a 21 yo and for Darvin Moon for holiding on for second, gives us all hope :)

Moving in the right direction

Hey All,

5 tips today for 2 winners and a 3rd - not too bad at all and nearly puts me back in front at Punters Paradise, here's the results

Cranbourne 6 - 7 - Testa Rocketa Unplcd
Cranbourne 8 - 13 - Viva Dubai 3rd $2.10
Wimmera@Arar 2 - 6 - Devils Party Unplcd
Wimmera@Arar 7 - 8 - Last Drop 1st $6.00 $2.10
Wimmera@Arar 8 - 4 - St Ives 1st $3.80 $1.80

Gotta be happy with that :)

I'll keep it going at 5 tips per day and see how I go

Cheers

Cup week - done and dusted

Afternoon All,

I had a pretty ordinary Cup week - couldn't find many winners and the ones I did find I couldn't make pay :(

There's always next year :)

I kind of worked out the link with Punters Paradise - see the bottom of the page. It's not the best place for it but it will do for now. I've decided to give it a bit of a crack and see how I go.

The plan - 5 tips per day at least 5 days per week and all for $5, with a profit guarantee.

Now I realise if I tip like yesterday no one will ever be interested BUT I'm confident I can turn that around and start showing a profit. I'll post my results here as well so you can keep track of them and see how I'm progressing.

Here's yesterdays results

07/11/09 Flemington 2 - 9 Absolute Star Unplcd
07/11/09 Flemington 6 - 10 Triple Honour Unplcd
07/11/09 Flemington 7 - 9 Estee Unplcd
07/11/09 Flemington 8 - 8 Hume Unplcd
07/11/09 Flemington 9 - 2 - El Mandon Unplcd

The site itself has plenty of good tipsters and is well worth checking out.

As to my own betting, I have some more thinking to do - I'll reload my accounts a little next weekend and get back into it.

Have a great day

A couple for today

Morning All,

I still haven't heard back from King Tipping so can't post up the link as of yet :(

I've put 5 tips up there but I'll throw the best couple up here as well to see how they go

Both at Flemington

Race 7 - The Matriarch Stakes

Frustrating race as Soul Diva would've been here if she hadn't injured herself last start, she should be back at them for one last go in Brisbane next winter.

2000m mares race and not many have form at the distance - I'm plugging for Estee each way. 2 worries are the lack of form at the track, and the barrier but she comes in a couple with the scratchings. Has been running on well and has never missed a place in 3 starts at the 2000m - Should be double figure odds

Race 8 - Queen Elizabeth Stakes

I, and plenty of others, like Hume here - has the form line through the Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and all things being equal should win at around the $3.50 mark.

Best of luck if you're having a punt today

I'm still alive - but it's all over, for now

Hey All,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while - it's a bit of a long story but I guess I should tell it.

I was getting a bit frustrated with how it was all going when fate decided to step in - my old computer didn't want to start up one morning so I had to reformat my hard drive and lost everything that was on it - seems to be working ok again now, touch wood - I have back ups of my database and rating spreadsheet BUT I don't have a back up of Microsoft Office - so can't access them :(

Stupid on my part, but hey - everyone makes mistakes. I originally got a copy of Office from work when it was part of our license agreement, budget cuts have led to them dropping that offer so I have no way of getting it without buying it, and seeing as I'm skint again that won't happen for a while.

I've been betting the old way for the last couple of months, had a good run for a bit but the last couple of weeks have been horrid. So time for a change again - not sure what I'll go to but whatever it is will mean a lot less bets. I have got a couple of things in mind and will be back to let you know. I am still confident this can be done and I will do it - one day.

Funny thing is I'm actually still in front for the season thanks to the Big 6 that I hit - so guess I can't complain too much.

Anyways, that's where I'm at and why I haven't been posting. I'll be back before too long with my next approach. In the mean time I think I'll post some of my tips on the Punters Paradise / King Tipping site and see how I go. Check it out on the link I'll try and include, there's some very good tipsters there - I'll be tipping as Womble.

I'll leave it there for now,

Take care

p.s. I'm having some troubles with the link - have sent them an email and will hopefully be able to post it before tomorrow when I'll put some tips up.

Week 7 - moving the right way again

Morning All,

AFL Grand final day today so the good races were in Melbourne last night - had a nice collect in the last at Moonee Valley to boost things along and finish week 7 off in style :)

The figures

Out - 25 units
In - 32.82 units
Profit - 7.82 units
S/R - 45%
POT - 31.28%

Overall

Out - 190 units
In - 197.84 units
Profit - 7.84 units
S/R - 38.16%
POT - 4.13%

So we have POT again - under the 5% minimum target but pretty close. Hopefully this week will be a winning one and boost that figure some more.

As for today, good horses win good races - I have Racing to Win @ Evens to win the Group 1 George Main Stakes, I saw $3 about a little while ago so it'll be interesting to see what price he starts. If you can get black odds, take it.

I'm cheering for the St Kilda today - 1966, when they won their first and only premiership, is too long ago - I hope they make it number 2.

Have a great day

Weeks 5 and 6 - a bit behind

Hey All,

Sorry for the slowness of the updates - a very quiet couple of weeks as I still haven't been 100%. Sitting at the computer doing ratings when you're a bit crook isn't much fun - was a bit slack though and probably should've done more. Figures have been ordinary with small losses both weeks. Not giving up yet though, let's see what happens

Week 5

Out - 5 units
In - 3.97 units
Loss - 1.03 units
S/R - 25%
LOT - 20.6%

Week 6

Out - 18.75 units
In - 17.67 units
Loss - 1.08 units
S/R - 60%
LOT - 5.76%

Overall

Out - 165 units
In - 165.02 units
Profit - .02 units
S/R - 37.12%
Effectively all square

So nowhere after 6 weeks, strike rate is good but the profits aren't flowing - see what happens the next few weeks

A lot favourites look the goods today but my each way tip is Caulfield Race 6 - 6 Midnight Mustang which should be big odds, I have it $2.60.

Best of luck if you're having a bet :)

Cheers

Week 4 - what a horrible week :(

Afternoon All,

Week was horrible in 2 ways, first up the system - almost all the profits wiped out and secondly, I was off work all week laid up and couldn't even jump on here to run the system - it's been very ordinary. Almost back up and about now so hopefully the system will improve as I do.

The figures

Out - 32.5 Units
In - 15.04 Units
Loss - 17.45 Units
S/R - 30.77%
LOT - 53.7%

Overall

Out - 141.25 Units
In - 143.38 Units
Profit - 2.13 Units
S/R - 34.51%
POT - 1.5%

The strike rate stood up but the ones that hit didn't pay all that well and I had, wait for it, so many 2nd and 3rds it was unbelievable :(

That's called the punters lament. Life goes on though - fingers crossed things turn around today.

No tips I'm afraid, just starting to rate now and won't have time to come back. As they say in the ads - bet with your head, not over it.

Finally, after the week I've had physically, it's time to make some changes there as well - this is a punting blog though so I won't bother you with details, suffice to say, life is a lot more enjoyable when you can get out and get involved in it - my plan is to make sure I can.

Have a great day :)

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Week 3 - that's better :)

Afternoon All,

Running a little late today so I haven't rated too many races yet - figured I'd post here and get back into it.

Not many bets last week, I'm really struggling to get motivated to rate during the week - I need to go full time now, if only I had a bank :(

Week 3 was a winning week and hopefully a sign of things to come

Out - 27.5 Units
In - 39.75 Units
S/R - 40.91%
P/L - 12.25 Units
POT - 44.54%

Overall

Out - 108.75 Units
In - 128.34 Units
S/R - 35.63%
P/L - 19.59 Units
POT - 18.01%

Much nicer figures :)

Here's 2 from the races rated so far to have a little something on each way

Caulfield Race 3 - 5 Solchow $2.20

Rosehill Race 3 - 7 Snow Alert $2.50

I'd better get the rest of these races rated

Have a great week :)

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Week 2 - oops

Evening All,

Firstly apologies for not posting this yesterday - I was running a little late and had to get a bus to Sydney. Was a nice weekend away, a winning day at the races and a 40th birthday do for a good mate from uni, well worthwhile.

Ok, the results - only limited bets in week 2 and it was a bad week :( But hey, that's going to happen, the figures will be up and down early but will hopefully average out to where I need them.

Week 2

Out - 26.25 units
In - 15.68 units
S/R - 28.57%
P/L - (10.57 units)
LOT - (41.86%)

Overall

Out - 81.25 Units
In - 88.59 units
S/R - 33.85%
P/L - 7.34 units
POT - 9%

So not good figures but still in front overall - to keep this going long term I need at least 5% POT, my target is 10% POT although I would happily take higher and that's possible based on the the trial.

No luck for the top raters once more, I'll have to think about what I do there.

The main reason I'm not too worried about the figures above is that I've had a ripper start to Week 3 almost hitting 100% POT, hopefully that will continue on.

My 2 shortest yesterday were Bejewelled in Sydney which lost and Eagle Falls in Melbourne which got up at around evens in a very good win.

Anyways, there's the update - I'll aim for Saturday next week

Have a great week All

Saturday, August 15, 2009

1 week down, a lifetime to go :)

Afternoon All,

Sorry I haven't been back until now, I've been trying to work out how to do all this. The couple of top raters I put up last week did nothing, hopefully today's pair will do better :)

As to the exactas - week 1 is a winning week :)

Here's the figures

Out - 55 units
In - 72.91 units
S/R - 36.36%
P/L - 17.91 units
POT - 32.56%

So above target so far - I hope that continues

Today's top 2

Caulfield Race 5 - 9 Diamonds at Dusk $1.50

Rosehill Race 8 - 11 Fastest Bullet $1.50

Soul Diva is about to run - needs luck from the barrier but a good chance this class at good odds - GO YOU GOOD THING!!!

Gotta run,

Good luck if you're punting :)

Saturday, August 8, 2009

Here we go, here we go ....

Afternoon All,

The big day has finally arrived - day 1 of the new approach, let's hope it all works out.

Lucky I started a week late because I found a mistake in my set up - I had a minus instead of a plus - oops. All fixed now though.

I'm betting on Sydney and Melbourne and because there's probably not much point you dropping in to watch my progress without a rating or two to follow - here's my shortest rater for each venue

Melbourne - I have Keltah at $1.70 in the last

Sydney - I have Drum Major at $1.60 in race 4

Soul Diva is being saved for next week, fingers crossed she goes well.

Birthday drinks today, off to the bowling club for a drink and a punt followed by whatever happens :)

Have a great

p.s. Well done Aussies, Ashes cricket back to normal :)

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Happy Birthday Horses :)

Hey All,

I'm back - well almost.

Plan was to start today but I've decided to hold off for a week - so start date will be next Saturday August the 8th. Main reason is it's after payday so I'll have something to start with but apart from that - it will give me a week to get back into the swing of things, Soul Diva will hopefully be running (she raced and won on the day I started the trial) and finally, it's my birthday :)

So the planets are all aligning for a start on Saturday the 8th.

I've done quite a bit of work while I was away - I have new spreadsheets, the beginnings of a database and an approach decided - the exactas. It's not the best way of doing it but it will get me through until I'm fully set up with a proper database that I can use to automate everything + more importantly have a bank to use.

That's what this season will be about - building a bank and getting a real database, well unless mine develops to the point I don't need a new one :)

My target for the year is $10k profit - possibly a little ambitious but I'll see how I go, I VERY rarely achieve targets or goals I set for myself but this is one I want to have a real crack at - $10k would allow me to have a real go next year and hopefully move closer to that dream of turning professional :)

So that's it for now - I'll rate a few races this afternoon and see how I go, refine my process a little so that I'm ready to rip from next week.

So until then, have a great week

p.s. I have Miss Supernatural rated odds on in Caulfield Race 1 - see how she goes.

Sunday, June 28, 2009

Well that's that - The wrap up

Morning All,

Another losing winning day yesterday - lost on the win the bets but cleaned up again on the quinella and exacta. Here are the two lots of results combined on the overall figures.

Saturday 20 June - was Melbourne

Out - $241
In - $0
Loss - $241
Quinella loss $29
Exacta loss $67
Trifecta loss $240

Saturday 27 June

Out - $559
In - $130
Loss - $429
Quinella profit $56
Exacta profit $101
Trifecta loss $600

Melbourne Only

Out - $301
In - $130
Loss - $171
Quinella profit $75
Exacta profit $143
Trifecta loss $300

OVERALL - Melbourne Only 113 Races

Out - $6404
In - $5665
Loss - $738 (LOT 11.52%)
Quinella profit $225 (POT 19.95%)
Exacta profit $317 (POT 14%)
Trifecta loss $786 (LOT 11.60%)

OVERALL - 200 Races

Out - $11265
In - $9734
Loss - $1531 (LOT 13.59%)
Quinella Profit $376 (POT 18.81%)
Exacta Profit $1078 (POT 26.96%)
Trifecta Profit $402 (POT 3.35%)

So there it is - an interesting set of numbers.

Yesterday was a good example of how shopping for better prices would help the figures with 2 winners being just 10 cents under my price but I guess that's how it goes.

The future is the exacta at 26.96% POT - that's a great figure and one I'm hoping to do very well with. Even if it halves it's still very decent and worth working with. My plan will be to throw some money into my IAS account and take exactas and see what happens. Fingers crossed it works out, 200 is only a small sample - will it translate to long term profits? Wait and see I guess.

Next up, a month off - I need a break to get ready for next season so will be doing that. When I come back I won't be posting my ratings pre race anymore - nobody probably reads them anyway, and if they do they wouldn't bet on them BUT just in case, to protect my value, I won't be posting them. I'll keep posting here though, just so people can see how I'm going and I'll probably throw out a rating standout on the days I'm betting.

Soul Diva wasn't too bad yesterday - ran 10th beaten 2.4 lens but had no luck at all in the straight, bring on next start :)

The Ratings Challenge - Len cleaned up, Cabbie ran a very good second and I managed to hold onto 3rd but showing a loss. Was a great learning experience and showed that, with work and a consistent plan, money can be made on the punt.

Oh well, that's it for now - I could post a bit over the next month to update you on what's happening but 1 August will be the day, a new season and the new me - a new planned and disciplined approach to the punt - wish me luck :)

All the best

Saturday, June 27, 2009

Sorry this is late, went out for a few drinks last night so didn't get started on the ratings until later this morning.

First up, apologies for not posting results for last week yet - it was another losing week, I'll get them up with the rest tomorrow.

I'm rating 10 races today - 5 in Melbourne and 5 in Sydney, so far I've only done the 5 in Melbourne so I still have a bit of work to do. The reason I'm doing 10 is to get to 200 overall - 200 is still only a very small sample but it will give me something to work with. I'll do some analysis on those races the next few days and see if I can find a way to make this thing pay. Most importantly though, I'm going to have a month off - I need a break so that I can come back fresh for the new season.

Almost there

Morning All,

Good luck if you're having a bet :)

Exotics kicking goals

Me again,

Yesterdays results - just the 4 races at Ipswich and I was a little unlucky with my top picks running 2nd in 3 of the 4 races. Found a nice trifecta in the Eyeline Stakes though which will turn a 26% LOT into a profit.

Just the 1 winner

Brisbane Race 6 Mitanni @ $22.60 (rated $10)

Note - any discrepancy is due to rounding

Yesterday

Out $232
In $225
Loss $8
Quinella profit $109
Exacta profit $487
Trifecta profit $4099

Overall

Out - $10465
In - $9604
Loss - $861 (LOT 8.23%)
Quinella profit $349 (POT 18.77%)
Exacta profit $1044 (POT 28.08%)
Trifecta profit $1242 (POT 11.13%)

No bets in Mellboure.

So it looks the way of the future is the exotics but we will wait and see.

Ratings Challenge I've fallen back further - well out of contention, it finishes up next week.

Ok, gotta bake some vegies

Have a great week :)

Results for last week

Afternoon All,

Time to catch up these results - I'll do it in two posts, first up last week - well actually it's the week before Saturday the 6th.

Just one winner from the 8 races :(

Melbourne Race 8 - Bangerang Quikpic won @ $5.30 (rated $4.60)

Everywhere

Out $513
In $116
Loss $396
Quinella Won $11
Exacta Loss $6
Trifecta Loss $444

Melbourne Only

Out $249
In $116
Loss $133
Quinella won $28
Exacta won $35
Trifecta loss $204

Overall - Everywhere

Out - $10223
In - $9379
Loss - $853 (LOT 8.34%)
Quinella profit $240 (POT 13.20%)
Exacta profit $557 (POT 15.31%)
Trifecta loss $2857 (LOT 26.16%)

Overall - Melbourne Only

Out - $5862

Quinella profit $179 (POT 17.25%)

So the only bright spots remain the quinellas and exactas.

DERIVATIVE RECEIPT $2.8
CANTERDOWN $8.4
BOMBER COMMAND $8.5
ANOTHER SPEIGHTS (NZ) $10.1
HUNKA BURNIN' LOVE $17.4

Why the loss in motivation - work has been crazy which has played a part but I guess the biggest thing is the up and down results, very annoying. What I think I'll do is post next week which is the last week of the Challenge and possibly the week after to get me through to the end of June. I'll look at the results in a bit more detail to see where I win and where I lose and see if I can find a way to make money out of this. I'm sure I can, even it's only taking that 10% POT on quinellas / exactas. Then, I'll do the smart thing, have a month off before coming back fresh in the new season from 1 August.

Big day today, bbq, drinks, Wallabies, drinks.... and tomorrow Raiders, drinks....

Should be fun :)

Have a great weekend

p.s. I will definitely have a little go at Macknuckle in the Ipswich Cup today, looks very well suited and I'll definitely get over my odds.

Exotically exotic

Morning All,

Managed to find a couple of value winners from the 4 rated races yesterday for a small profit as well as getting results for both the quinellas and exactas. They could definitely be the way to go into the future.

Winners were

Pillar in race 8 at $6.90 (rated at $6.60)
Intruder in race 9 at $4.50 (rated at $3.20)

Also had the other 2 winners in my top 5 but both were under my odds

Results Yesterday

Out - $233
In - $245
Profit - $13
Quinella profit - $47
Exacta profit - $99
Trifecta loss - $108

Results Overall

Out - $9720
In - $9263
Loss - $457 (LOT 4.70%)
Quinella profit $229 (POT 13.17%)
Exacta profit $563 (POT 16.19%)
Trifecta loss $2413 (LOT 23.11%)

Results Melbourne only

Out - $5613
In - $5419
Loss - $193 (LOT 3.44%)
Quinella profit $151 (POT 15.14%)
Exacta profit $206 (POT 10.28%)
Trifecta loss $42 (LOT 0.71%)

That's 100 races in Melbourne / Victoria now - so starting to build a decent sample size, will be very interesting to see how these figures stand up for the rest of the season. I'd love to see all the results in profit by the end of July but won't hold my breath.

Ratings Challenge results aren't out yet but Len hit a couple of winners and will kick further away from the field, I think I'll just hold onto second.

I've had a little bit of luck, skill? Probably a bit of both and managed to hit a very small percentage of yesterdays Big 6 - it's amazing to think that even though only one of the winners paid over $10 the Big 6 paid $130k. Like I said, I only got a very small percentage but I'm wrapped and it means the possibility of having a bank to start with come August 1 and the new season is MUCH higher :)

I'll be back in the next couple of days with updated scores from the ratings challenge.

Have a great day

I hate hangovers

Morning All,

Home at 3amish - I'm whacked. I've rated the Ratings Challenge venue of Bairnsdale but that's it for today I'm afraid, it's back to bed for me.

Race 6

HAMMERBLOW $3.4
SIR ALJAY $3.5
ABITOFUN (NZ) $9.4
KINGS AND ACES $13.1
JET TORQUE $20.9

One step forward, two steps back ....

Evening All,

Another losing day yesterday with just the 2 winners, although if you shop for better prices there was a third there as well. It's frustrating but that's how punting is - I just need to find a little more consistency and a few more winners.

The winners yesterday were

Caulfield Race 5 - Driffield Gold @ $2.20 (rated $1.40)

Doomben Race 5 - Apache Cat @ $3.20 (rated at $2.80)

Great to see Apache Cat win another Group 1 race and crack the $4 million in prize money, a very popular horse.

Here are the summaries

Overall - yesterday

Out - $577
In - $274
Loss - $303
Quinella loss $3
Exacta Profit $48
Trifecta Loss $51

Melbourne Only - yesterday

Out - $257
In - $160
Loss - $97
Quinella Loss $1
Exacta Profit $9
Trifecta Loss $211

Overall

Out - $9487
In - $9018
Loss - $470 (LOT 4.95%)
Quinella Profit $182 (POT 10.72%)
Exacta Profit $464 (POT 13.66%)
Trifecta Loss $2305 (LOT 22.60%)

Overall - Melbourne Only

Out - $5380
In - $5174
Loss - $206 (LOT 3.83%)
Quinella Profit $104 (POT 10.88%)
Exacta Profit $107 (POT 5.55%)
Trifecta Profit $66 (POT 1.14%)

Some bright spots but lots of improvement needed as well.

In the ratings challenge I've held second spot but fallen a bit further behind. Luckily prices for the challenge are the best available so I hit one winner - Darth in race 6.

Table is

Len - $1062.45
Me - $707.21
Cabbie - $550.37

John L - ($496.98)
Ken - ($646.64)
John D - ($1520.51)

4 weeks to go so plenty of time - I need to find more winners!!!

Swans and Raiders both had wins today - GO YOU GOOD THINGS :)

Have a great week

Short but sweet

Morning All,

It was only 4 races but when you find 3 value winners it makes it all worthwhile :)

Winners were

Mine in Time at $3.60 (Rated at $1.70)

Penrickson at $5.20 (Rated at $2.90)

Allervite at $15.30 (Rated at $13.30)

Losses on the exotics but closing in on a profit overall so I'm pretty happy - I won't update the Melbourne results today as there is no change.

Yesterday

Out - $252
In - $504
Profit - $252
Quinellas Lost $11
Exactas Lost $28
Trifectas Lost $240

Overall

Out - $8910
In - $8744
Loss - $167 (LOT 1.88%)
Quinellas Profit $185 (POT 11.50%)
Exactas Profit $416 (POT 12.93%)
Trifectas Loss $2254 (LOT 23.33%)

Down to a loss of less than 2% on tab prices, not too bad at all :)

Good news on the ratings challenge as well, I've only seen the unofficial results but don't expect them to change - here's the new table

Len - $1114.81
Me - $1014.15
Cabbie - $280.77

John L - ($148.32)
Ken - ($325.47)
John D - ($1636.93)

So second place and only $100 down with 5 weeks to go :)

Next week is the Sunshine Coast Cushion track - should be very interesting, will the ratings hold up on the artificial surface???

Anyways, happy days - with testing progressing well.

Have a great week All

Saturday, May 16, 2009

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Morning All,

Bad news I'm afraid, just the 4 races rated (the Challenge races) because I need to go to work for a bit - I HATE working on a Saturday but hey, you've gotta do what you've gotta do.

So it's the quaddie legs at Canterbury

Race 5

MINE IN TIME $1.7
ANGEL'S BREATH $10.6
MARGHAM $13.9
ONTHELOOKOUT $14.7
BACK ON TOP $22.0

Race 6

PENRICKSON (NZ)$2.9
DERIVATIVE RECEIPT $4.1
PRINCE ARTHUR $10.8
JOKU $17.4
KEEPIN' THE DREAM (NZ) $25.1

Race 7

STARRING TO WIN (NZ) $3.2
MONTEREY ROAD $6.8
THE COSSACK $8.7
NOBLE EDICT $12.5
MARKWORTHY $13.5

Race 8

HUNTERS HOST $3.2
WELKOM GOLD $3.7
THE TAKE $13.3
ALLERVITE $13.3
GUMNUTS $21.8

Assuming Gumnuts is in Race 8 - as I write this it's still nominated for race 7 as well and I thought the scratchings were finalised - weird stuff.

Anyways, sorry again - better get ready

Good luck if you're having a bet

Better late then never :)

Hey All,

Sorry about the delays, I lost a lot of time the last few days looking at ways to automate my ratings more via excel and access, it's not easy but I am making progress.

Before I put up the results I need to confess that I just found a mistake in the Melbourne Only spreadsheet - I wasn't summing all the fields and as a result the profit on the quinellas and exactas has fallen away sorry about that - I will be more aware of it in the future. They are still in the black though :)

Ok, results - just the 3 winners but all at nice overs

Hawkesbury Race 7 - Testimonial Won at $18.30 (rated at $2.80)
Flemington Race 8 - Zupacool Won at $9.10 (rated at $2.50)
Belmont Race 5 - Ma Ma Machine Won at $3.40 (rated at $2.30)

Leading to ...

Overall for Saturday

Out - $728
In - $1179
Profit - $451
Quinella Lost $86
Exacta Lost $176
Trifecta Lost $675

Melbourne Only for Saturday

Out - $275
In - $386
Profit - $111
Quinella Loss $40
Exacta Loss $80
Trifecta Loss $240

Overall

Out - $8658
In - $8240
Loss - $419 (LOT 4.84%)
Quinella Profit $196 (POT 12.50%)
Exacta Profit $444 (POT 14.15%)
Trifecta Loss $2014 (LOT 21.38%)

Overall Melboure Only

Out - $5123
In - $5014
Loss - $109 (LOT 2.13%)
Quinella Profit $105 (POT 11.46%)
Exacta Profit $98 (POT 5.30%)
Trifecta Profit $277 (POT 5.01%)

Best thing about the weekend was that the LOT % on the ratings themselves came back a bit to less than 5% - when you consider that I can probably find 8 - 10% by getting best price instead of NSW Tab that's very encouraging.

As to the Ratings Challenge - I've fallen back a bit further behind Len and been passed by Cabbie who moves to second.

Here's the table at the half way point

1 - Len $926.25
2 - Cabbie $426.55
3 - Me $340.76

4 - John L ($95.48)
5 - Ken ($401.02)
6 - John D ($1334.51)

Well that's done, apologies again for the delays

Enjoy the rest of your week :)

Running late - keep waiting...

Hey All,

Sorry about this, no results yet - I've been absorbed in the worlds of Excel and Access and trying to build a database, pretty painful stuff.

I did hit 3 value winners including a couple at good overs so there will be a profit - I'll try and do the update tomorrow.

Sorry again

Saturday, May 9, 2009

Slipping and sliding but holding firm

Morning All,

Another losing day for the ratings on the primary, well what was meant to be the primary measure, of winners. Exotics went ok again though so the black figures remain black - maybe they are the way to make money from this thing down the track.

So just the one winner yesterday

Gold Coast Race 5 - Chakvetadze rated at $3.70 paid $5

And the rest of the figures

Yesterday Overall

Out - $393
In - $137
Loss - $257
Quinella Profit $46
Exacta Profit $54
Trifecta Profit $1386

Yesterday Melbourne Only

Out - $191
In - $0
Loss - $191
Quinella Loss $25
Exacata Loss $59
Trifecta Profit $62

Overall

Out - $7930
In - $7061
Loss - $870 (LOT 10.97%)
Quinella Profit $282 (POT 19.46%)
Exacta Profit $620 (POT 21.39%)
Trifecta Loss $1339 (LOT 15.39%)

Overall Melbourne Only

Out - $4848
In - $4628
Loss - $220 (LOT 4.54%)
Quinella Profit $271 (POT 30.84%)
Exacta Profit $413 (POT 23.44%)
Trifecta Profit $517 (POT 9.78%)

It was a tough day overall with roughies that I most didn't find winning 3 of the races so I'm not feeling too bad about it. The nice black figures around the quinella and exacta could be showing the way to go in the future - around 20% POT must be a money maker if the figures stand up.

Ratings Challenge results aren't out yet but I'll lose ground this week - Len hit the winner of the last to offset me hitting the first and also got a better price, I should still hold second place though. I'll post the results once they are through.

Have a great day All

p.s. go the Swannies

Saturday, May 2, 2009

Hey it's May

Morning All,

Looks like May is here, how fast is the year going!!!

Before I start today I just wanted to say RIP Sunline - she was a real Champion, I watched her win a Cox Plate and Doncaster Handicap live and she was just awesome - racing needs more like her.

Now for today, I've just done the 8 races 4 at Caulfield and 4 at the Gold Coast which is the venue for the tipping challenge.

Caulfield first

Race 5

INSTRUCTOR $2.8
GOLD SALUTE $3.7

One winner but ....

Morning All,

Lucky I choose Sydney for the ratings challenge as the only value winner I found was in the last race there. So a loss for the day but luckily a small profit in Sydney to close the gap in the ratings challenge, I'll post the scores once they are confirmed.

It's frustrating not getting consistent results but I guess that's typical of punting - I'll push on and see where I'm at when the season winds up on 31 July

So just the 1 winner

Noble Edict rated @ $6.80 paid $18.10

Overall for yesterday

Out - $436
In - $265
Loss - $171
Quinella Loss $80
Exacta - Loss $160
Trifecta - Loss $480

Melbourne Only

Out - $206
In - $0
Loss - $206
Quinella loss $40
Exacta Loss $80
Trifecta Loss $240

Overall

Out - $7537
In - $6924
Loss - $613 (LOT 8.13%)
Quinella Profit $236 (POT 17.24%)
Exacta Profit $566 (POT 20.67%)
Trifecta Loss $2725 (LOT 33.15%

Overall Melbourne Only

Out - $4657
In - $4628
Loss - $29 (LOT 0.62%)
Quinella Profit $271 (POT 32.31%)
Exacta Profit $413 (POT 24.55%)
Trifecta Profit $455 (POT 9.02%)

So still some black figures + still worked out on NSW Tab prices so probably +5% or so if I can get the best odds available.

Swannies got beat with The Dockers being more desperate, a loss that could prove crucial later in the year :(

Raiders play today here in Canberra where it's very chilly, chilly enough for them to be good things I think :)

Yum Cha at noon so I best get ready

Have a great day All :)

Ratings Challenge Update

Morning All,

Just a quick update with the scores from the Ausrace Ratings Challenge - a good week for me and a bad week for the leader means that I've closed the gap a little. There's 9 weeks to go so plenty of time to catch him BUT he is still the one to beat - definitely not a two horse race though.

Racing rules - footy flops

Morning All,

Not too bad a day yesterday with a couple of good value winners from the 8 rated races and also a very nice quinella / exacta. Footy was a flop though with only one correct and more thinking to be done.

Yesterdays winners were

Rampant Lion at $24.60 rated at $7.30

and

Russeting at $10.40 rated at $7.90

And the figures - just overall as I didn't rate Melbourne (sorry again)

Out - $468
In - $644
Profit - $176 (POT 37.60%)
Quinella - Profit $279
Exacta - Profit $704
Trifecta - Loss $480

Overall

Out - $7101
In - $6659
Loss - $442 (LOT 6.23%)
Quinella - Profit $316 (POT 24.51%)
Exacta - Profit $726 (POT 28.16%)
Trifecta - Loss $2245 (LOT 29.01%)

So still losing overall but closed the gap a little and the quinellas and exactas are still going great.

Luckily both those winners were part of the ratings challenge, I'll post the update on it as soon as it's official.

Footy wise, well done Swannies - I should've backed them instead, they definitely have it all over Carlton. Alas, I picked the Hawks who lost to Port and the Lions who got beat by the Pies, both major upsets. My only winner in the AFL was the Cats who look very hard to beat at the moment. In the league, the Titans beat the Raiders by 6, I needed 8.5 and the Knights rolled the Dragons who led them and got run down.

Definitely need to rethink the footy bets.

Ok, better get some stuff done. Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Doncaster Day - part last

Hey All,

Little change of plan - just going to post the quaddie legs at Randwick today. There's a bit too much going on with the good racing and the Swans about to play, I'm not focused enough to rate the Melbourne quaddie - sorry about that.

Time for a little go at the footy

Morning All,

With both the rugby league and Aussie rules seasons well underway now and the form starting to take a bit better shape I've decided to have a little bet. That's all it is though, just an interest bet in the hope of a result and the start of a bank being built.

I've gone a multiple that'll be all done after Saturday night so that I can hopefully reinvest the winnings on Sunday. So the bet, a Super Yankee - 5 legs made up of 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 quartets and one 5 play - $26 outlay for 1 unit, any 2 winners get me a collect all 5 would turn my $26 into $172 or so.

I've gone with

Lions -10.5 vs Magpies
Hawks -23 vs Power
Cats -22 vs Crows

In the Aussie rules

Titans -8.5 vs Raiders (sorry Raiders)
Dragons -6 vs Knights

In the League

Fingers crossed for a collect.

Tomorrows ratings challenge is on Eagle Farm in Brisbane so away from my usual tracks again - will be interesting to see how I go.

Have a great day All, back tomorrow.

From the best day to the worst :(

Hey All,

Well that was a bit of a disaster - the ratings just couldn't get going yesterday. There a few that won that I had unders and a few that just missed at good odds running seconds and thirds. It's all very frustrating but hopefully it'll work out ok in the end.

Here's the results - just the 3 winners from 21 races :(

Oakbank Race 5 - Our Scene @ $3.10 (rated $3)

Caulfield Race 7 - Happy Glen @ $6.90 (rated $5.50)

Randwick Race 9 - Miss Darcy @ $5.50 (rated $3.10)

Yesterday Overall

Out - $1169
In - $402
Loss - $766
Quinella - Loss $144
Exacta - Loss $294
Trifecta - Loss $1195

Yesterday Melbourne Only

Out - $462
In - $125
Loss - $338
Quinella - Loss $56
Exacta - Loss $120
Trifecta - Loss $355

Overall

Out - $6633
In - $6015
Loss - $618 (LOT 9.32%)
Quinella - Profit $37 (POT 3.07%)
Exacta - Profit $22 (POT 0.93%)
Trifecta - Loss $1765 (LOT 24.31%)

Overall - Melbourne Only

Out - $4451
In - $4628
Profit - $177 (POT 3.98%)
Quinella - Profit $271 (33.93%)
Exacta - Profit $413 (POT 25.78%)
Trifecta - Profit $695 (POT 14.47%)

So there's still some black figures about which is a good thing. Luckily I won't have to rate Oakbank again, even though I did find the one winner in the race I didn't have to rate!!! My ratings should work on all tracks but were designed for Melbourne so that probably explains why they are doing better for now.

With the ratings challenge - wipeout for me :(

A few of the others managed a win thanks to finding the $30 winner in the last. Here's the table with 2 weeks down and 10 to go.

Len + $870.34
John L + $276.30
Me + $187.66
John D - $156.04
Ken - $431.51
Cabbie - $511.24

Long way to go but Len is clearly the one to beat - fingers crossed for a few good weeks

Raiders got a win last night, well done guys - Swans were terrible in the wet the same as usual, it's going to be a long year.

Big day of racing next Saturday with the Doncaster and the AJC Oaks, will be a ripper.

Have a great week All

Week one of the Ausrace Ratings Challenge

Hey All,

Just wanted to drop in and update the scores for week 1 of the ratings challenge

Len +586.27
> Womble +435.64
> Whispering Cabbie +189.18
> John +54.51
> Ken -49.58
> John -359.20

So I'm off to a decent start :)

Will be interesting this Saturday as it looks like we'll be tipping at Oakbank - it's normally a track only raced on for a massive Easter carnival of jumps and flat racing and is over in South Australia.

I'll have to do a bit of extra work!!!

Anyways, time for bed - have fun All

p.s. Well done Raiders :)

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Oh what a day :)

Morning All,

Looks like I can put away my concerns over Sydney with yesterday proving the ratings work in both states with my best day yet :)

Here's a list of the winners and their prices, pretty impressive I'd suggest

In Sydney

PURPLE $3.8 - Won at $8

NEROLI $3.7 - Won at $6.70

FIUMICINO (NZ)$8.8 - Won at $24.10

In Melbourne

SERMON (1) $19.8 - Won at $24.50

HUXSSEN $4.5 - Won at $4.60

FITOUSSI $3.8 - Won at $16.30

So 6 value winners out of 12 rated races :)

Here's the rest of the figures

Yesterday Overall

Out - $767
In - $1319
Profit - $552
Quinella - $62 profit
Exacta - $223 profit
Trifecta - $554 loss :(

Yesterday Melbourne Only

Out - $436
In - $654
Profit - $218
Quinella - $5 loss
Exacta - $24 profit
Trifecta - $254 loss

Overall - all venues (100 races)

Out - $5464
In - $5613
Profit - $148 (POT 2.71%)
Quinella - $184 profit (POT 18.12%)
Exacta - $316 profit (POT 15.82%)
Trifecta - $570 loss (LOT 9.50%)

Overall - Melbourne only (73 races)

Out - $3989
In - $4503
Profit - $515 (POT 12.91%)
Quinella - $271 profit (POT 37.18%)
Exacta - $413 profit (POT 28.25%)
Trifecta - $1050 profit (POT 23.96%)

So there they are, a lovely set of figures - I hope they keep following that pattern!!!

I've hit 100 races overall now and am in profit so happy to continue, my next decision point will be at the end of April but chances are I'll continue to post these here until the end of the season - i.e. 30 June. Hopefully by then I'll be able to save a decent bank and start betting on them.

Fitoussi got me off to a great start in the ratings challenge - I'll post the results here once they are out.

Have a great week All :)

p.s. well done Swannies, go the Raiders

p.p.s I'm glad I'm not betting on the footy yet - plenty of upsets happening

SO ANYWAY $7.1
REAL SAGA $8.8

Race 7 is the Golden Slipper - a 2 yo dash that's been going 50 + years (I think). A lot of people hate it because they think 2yo's aren't ready for a race with so much pressure so early in their careers. They could be right because not many go on to bigger things but hey with $3.5 million for first you have to have a crack if you have one good enough.

Heavy track at Rosehill makes it difficult, especially with the babies but we'll see how we go.

Fingers crossed for a good day.

Have fun All

Golden Slipper Day - The 2yo Classic

Morning All,

Running a little late again, well sort of - I wanted to make sure I got the ratings for the competition (Caulfield 5,6,7 and 9) right so spent a little longer on them.

Here's the ratings for Caulfield excluding the 2yo - Rosehill will follow but I'll only do the 5 group 1's there.

Note - the races will be rated to 100%, normally 90%, for the next 12 weeks while the competition is running, saves me doing 2 sets.

Race 2

JEUNE DE COEUR $3.1
LIVE IN SIN $3.1
TESTA MONTE $4.1
BIONA WINNA $21.2
MARVEEN $37.9

Race 3

ZIZZ $4.7
RETURNTOSENDER $11.0
TESTAMARRIAGE $18.0

Race 5

FITOUSSI $3.8
MULTAHB (NZ) $5.7
LARRY'S NEVER LATE (NZ)$7.6
MATEO (5)$9.7
PALM TRILOGY (4) $10.7

Race 6

COMMANDING HOPE $3.5
DIPLOMATIC FORCE $3.5

DELYARA $3.0
DISCIPLINED $4.2
LODORE FALLS $9.7
NUCLEAR FORCE $15.4
WHITEHAVEN GIRL $15.7

Ok, back in an hour or so with Rosehill

Melbourne vs Sydney

Morning All,

Interesting day again yesterday - a loss overall but it was all because of Sydney - in Melbourne I rated 6 races and found 4 value winners, in Sydney it was 7 races and squat. This got me thinking a little and as a result this week I've broken the results in two - Overall and Melbourne Only, the Melbourne Only figures being MUCH better.

Overall Results

Yesterday

Out - $642
In - $591
Loss - $51
Quinella - $25 profit
Exacta - $49 profit
Trifecta - $918 profit

Overall

Out - $4697
In - $4294
Loss - $404 (LOT 8.6%)
Quinella - $116 profit (POT 13.2%)
Exacta - $93 profit (POT 5.31%)
Trifecta - $16 loss (LOT 0.3%)

Melbourne Only

Yesteday

Out - $268
In - $591
Profit - $323
Quinella - $87 profit
Exacta - $167 profit
Trifecta - $1338 profit

Overall

Out - $3553
In - $3849
Profit - $297 (POT 8.36%)
Quinella - $271 (POT 41.12%)
Exacta - $413 (POT 31.25%)
Trifecta - $1304 (POT 32.92%)

I'm not sure why I'm doing so much better in Melbourne, maybe it's because that's what the system was originally designed for or maybe it's that there is a bigger pool of results. I'll break it down throughout April and see what happens - obviously I'm hoping Sydney will pick up and Melbourne will hold up so that I end up winning overall.

On a side note, and quite an exciting one (for me at any rate) - I'm taking part in a 12 week rating challenge on an email racing list I subscribe to called Ausrace. There are 6 of us taking part with a buy in of $200 - winner take all. Now it would be nice if it was just Melbourne but it's 4 races per week from any of the 10 or so venues available. Looking at my figures it's hard to see how I could win BUT with a little luck things could go my way so I took the punt, $1000 would be the perfect betting bank for next season. If nothing else it should be a great learning experience.

So it's a big 12 weeks coming up, fingers crossed for some good results.

Have a great week

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Crashing back to earth :(

Morning All,

Well that was pretty terrible, 16 races rated for 2 winning results - both in Melbourne. Sydney was a total wipe out :(

So back to the drawing board at least to a degree. One thing I did wrong was rate Sydney based on a good track when it stayed dead all day - I assumed it would dry out, it rained a little more. Changing to dead would've only found 1 winner but 1 would've been better than none :(

Results wise - I'll just provide a summary rather than highlight all my pain :(

Winners were Dance on Air (Melbourne race 3) rated at $2.50 paying $3.80 and Hissing Sid (Melbourne race 7) rated $2.10 paying $2.70.

Out - $876
In - $281
Loss - $595 ($106 in Melbourne and $489 in Sydney)

Overall

Out - $4055
In - $3703
Loss - $353 (LOT 8.71%)

Quinellas + $91 (POT 12.19%)
Exactas + $45 (POT 2.97%)
Trifectas - $934 (LOT 20.76%)

So a disaster to say the least but I'm sure things will improve next week - well I hope they do!!!

Anyways - have a great week All

p.s. Congrats Anna Bligh on winning the Queensland election - a GREAT result :)

Is one winner enough? - Maybe it is :)

Morning All,

Frustrating old day but the ratings got out in the last for a decent profit with a nice priced winner.

Here's the results

ABSENT FRIENDS (2)$12.4 (No bet)
JEDBURGH (NZ) (12)$18.1 (No bet)
GURU (3)$18.4 (No bet)

In $440.80 Out $281 Profit $159.80

Overall - I've done up a spreadsheet of results from back in January when I started the ratings BUT have built it to include the top 5 rated in each race to make it balance out. Unfortunately I can't just cut and paste the results in so will just post the key figures - N.B - I've been rounding down to the nearest whole dollar where as the spreadsheet multiplies by the actual figures. So they are out a little but accurate enough to give a guide to how things are going. If I was to bet on Betfair I could bet the actual amounts as per the spreadsheet.

So after 8 weeks and 59 races

Out - $3179
In - $3422
Profit - $242 (POT 7.61%)

The exotics

Quinellas - plus $181 (POT 30.75%) - cost $10 per race
Exactas - plus $242 (POT 20.47%) - cost $20 per race
Trifectas - minus $164 (LOT 4.64%) - cost $60 per race

So some very interesting numbers - most would say you need at least 1000 races to have a decent guide but I think 100 will give me an indication if I should continue or not - I would love to be at 10% profit on turnover (POT) by then but would be happy with anything above 5%.

Wait and see I guess, if I pull my finger out and do both Sydney and Melbourne from now I should get to 100 races in the next 3 weeks or so.

Have a great week All

p.s. GO THE RAIDERS :)

I'm back but a bit slack

Afternoon All,

I had big plans of rating all the races at Randwick and Flemington today, only ended up doing 1/2 a dozen at Randwick - sorry about that. I slept in a bit long and had to learn how to use my spreadsheet again lol

Ok here's the ones I've done - all at Randwick

Race 1

SUBTLE COVE (6) $3.5
BEAUCOUP (2)$3.5
TIPSY PIGGY (4) $8.2

JEDBURGH (NZ) (12)$18.1
GURU (3)$18.4

I hope there is some winners amongst them. I was going to do the Guineas as well but my spreadsheet only has room for 17 horses and there's 18 in it - I'll fix that up in the next couple of weeks

The rugby league started last night so the sports betting is getting closer - I'll give it couple of weeks for the form to settle down first though.

Anyways, gotta go - have a great day

Sunday, March 1, 2009

14 Feb - $93.20 Profit
21 Feb - $478.60 Profit
28 Feb - $186.30 Loss

Overall - $99.80 Profit

So we end up with 4 winning days and 3 losing ones and a small profit overall - in the end though, I think it's worth continuing - especially with the work I've put in.

I'm going away next weekend for my sister's 50th birthday - the timing isn't the best as it's Super Saturday with some very good horses running but hey, family always needs to take priority - I'll be back the following week and will be looking at doubling up by adding Sydney races to the mix as well. Add to that the start of the rugby league season and things are hotting up. I still don't have a bank but the betting isn't far off starting up again.

Have a great fortnight All, don't miss me too much :)

Last day of Summer

Morning All,

Another summer almost done - hopefully the warm, not too hot, weather hangs about for a few more weeks.

I've spent a lot of the week playing around with the ratings - not how they are worked out, I'd be mad to change that after last week - more so around how I get the figures into excel where I manipulate them. It's almost worked, definitely sped things up but there's a little more to do.

Here's today's ratings - there's a couple of 2 year old races I've left out. This is the second / third tier of the crop and there's a few first starters.

21 Feb - $478.60 Profit

Overall - $286.10 Profit

It's important to note these figures are a bit out because I only looked at the those under $10 for the first 3 weeks. I don't want to change the figures because the rest of my top 5 weren't posted and I'd rather stay with those that were, even though the overall profit figure would most likely improve. Also, these are based on TAB prices so you could probably get 5 - 10% better just by shopping around.

I'm pretty happy with the numbers, the 2 wipe outs are obviously a concern but it looks like the tweaks I've put in place will hopefully help avoid them in the future.

Anyways, enjoy the rest of your weekend / your week - I'll be back next weekend

Blue Diamond Stakes Day

Morning All,

Running a little late today after a bit of a night out last night - it's day like today I wish I was younger and recovered like I did in the past :(

I've decided not to update the trifecta results, looking back I wasn't posting the top 5 all along so the ratings weren't out there to check.

It's a great days racing today and I'm really looking forward to it - little bit of work to do to get the ratings done though.

Here's the first 4 races for now

Patchy but a win, well yesterday anyway

Hey All,

Took me a while to get around to writing this, I knew the ratings had finished in front just wasn't sure how much. Now I know - $93.20 - so not a lot, but not bad either.

Here are the results to date

17 Jan - $451.10 Profit
24 Jan - $356 Loss
31 Jan - $38.20 Profit
8 Feb - $419 Loss
14 Feb - $93.20 Profit

Overall - $192.50 Loss :(

Nothing like consistency is there :)

Anyways, I'll try and keep them going for a bit and see where I end up at the end of February. From there I can do some more refining and see if I'll continue or not.

Here's yesterday's figures

Race 2

8 Centurytwentyone $1.5 Won @ $3.90 * $66 - $257.40
11 Burbonstreetblues $18.5 lost $5
5 Cohort $22.5 No bet

3 Rapid Sensation $17.0 No bet

Race 7

1 Apache Cat $1.9 Won @ $5.90 * $52 - $306.80
7 Time Thief $8.2 3rd No Bet
5 Mind Your Head $13.9 Lost $7
2 Weekend Hussler $15.8 No Bet
3 Orange County $17.3 No bet

Race 8

4 Princess Marizza $2.3 Lost $43
5 Rolling Stock $8.6 Lost $11
9 Mixxer $14.8 Lost $6
7 Fifth Avenue Lady $17.7 3rd No bet
2 Partiva $18.8 No bet

Race 9

10 Flagstaff $1.8 3rd Lost $55
4 Bolle $8.3 2nd Lost $12
9 Mock $20.8 Lost $4
6 El Pretender $26.1 Lost $3
2 Road to Rock $26.9 No bet won @ $2.30

The trifectas I mentioned last week would've only returned $40.30 + $36 for the late scratching yesterday for a loss of $403.70, so that's just as patchy as the win bets, although at a guess they would be in front overall. I might have a look during the week.

I spent a few hours today looking at databases before deciding it's all too complicated - one day I'll buy one, rate every race every day (well most of them) and retire on the profits.

What a lovely dream :)

Have a great week All

Hobart Cup Day 2009

Morning All,

Ok, better get to work - just before I go though an update on the bad news of yesterday, the death toll from the fires is now over 100 and rising - it's so so sad, my heart goes out to all those that have lost friends and loved ones :(

Cheers,

Saturday becomes Sunday

Afternoon All,

For those that don't know, Melbourne had their hottest day on record yesterday and as a result the Caulfield races were moved to today.

More importantly, and sadly, there were major bush fires in Victoria with at least 25 killed and hundreds of homes destroyed - my thoughts are with the families and friends of those that were lost, terrible stuff :(

I've rated all 9 races today - I normally stay clear of the 2 year olds without many starts but as the ones today are the big lead ups to the Blue Diamond I figured I'd include them as well.

A win is a win is a win

Morning All,

Wins in the first (well second) and last races yesterday locked in a profit of $38.20 for the ratings - only small, but as the title says - a win is a win.

It's all still a learning experience and I think I'll make some changes again next week - the big one being to go my top 5 instead of just the ones under $10. Doing so the last 2 weeks would have pulled in an extra couple of winners, yesterday's would have been Scenic Blast rated around $11 and paying around $20.

The other point to make is that I'm still using NSW Tab prices which has pros and cons, mostly cons though. Lower prices mean I've missed backing a couple of losers but also that I'm getting less about my winners. If and when I do start actually backing the ratings I won't be doing so on the Tab.

Ok, here's the results - once again betting to to return $100 at my rated price.

Race 8

9 Ab Almalik $3.2 - $31 Won @ $6.40 - Return $198.40
8 Ma Shang $3.2 No Bet
4 Cohort $7.9 (Lost $12)

Overall In $375.20 Out $337 Profit $38.20

Just needed one of those 2nd placers to be a winner and it would've been a good day. Can't complain too much though, they are on or at least around the money so worth continuing with.

The Big 6 looks interesting and will definitely suck some punters in - the NSW Tab one across Flemington and Rosehill paid $61307 - which shows that there'll be some big money up for grabs.

Best of luck to Ben Graham and the Arizona Cardinals in the Superbowl tomorrow - go you good things!!!

Have a great week
