Back for another Saturday of racing and ratings. Last week was awful but I'm feeling good about today with some good racing and some nice horses going around.
Some of you might have noticed Soul Diva is scratched today - she's fine, they are saving her for the Hobart Cup on Feb 9 - GO YOU GOOD THING!!!

First day of the Big 6 (pick the winner of 6 nominated races) today but I won't be having a crack at it until next week, I need to get some money into my NSW Tab account.

Happy Australia Day :)
Hey All,
Some call it invasion day and some think it should be moved - in some ways both have cases to argue. It was on this day in 1788 that the first fleet arrived in Sydney, and the history of white settlement began. We're not a perfect country, but then again no country is - I for one am very grateful my parents choose to come here and make this our home. Happy Australia Day All :)
Now off that bright starting note to Saturday's results - WIPE OUT :(

Saturday wrap-up
Hey All,
Interesting day of results yesterday - I'm learning all the time and have picked up on a few things I need to work on to improve the results.
I've been told by a few different people previously how I should be betting my ratings - so I'll start working those results in from now as well. Basically, the suggestions have been to back anything you can get overs on to win a set amount. I'll post results based on betting to return $100 BUT I'll only back horse I have priced under $10 so as to limit the bets to the horses I like most (I'll only post those ones from now as well)
Finally, I'll be mostly focusing on Saturdays and public holidays as it's too much of a struggle to back up to a night of crunching numbers on here after a day on the computer at work.

Couple of final points to make - I didn't rate race 1 as there was only one horse that had previously raced. With race 8, the winner was a first starter - the only one in the field - it was a very good effort for it to win, but impossible for me to rate.
Lots of sports on this time of year - I'm hoping to see the Eagles beat the Cardinals and then go on to win the Super Bowl. Either way though, I'd love to see either Sav Rocca or Ben Graham take it away, go you Aussies :)
Tennis - Aussie Open is about to start - I hope Ana Ivanovic win the women's because she is HOT :) Men's - Andy Murray is playing great, he could be the one.
Then there's cricket, A League etc etc etc
Shame I'm not betting at present but I'll start up again soon - I want to build a bank for the winter and the Aussie football codes, there is DEFINITELY money to be made.

SOUL DIVA :)
Hey All,
It's great to see her back in the winners circle, wasn't a totally dominant win but she got there - YOU RIPPER!!!
Didn't have a big bet but the $5.20 on the tab was a nice price + add in around 3% of the prize money and I'm a happy chappy :)
One other thing about the win is how it highlights that racing in the right class is important - she's now had 28 starts for 10 wins, if you take off the 10 starts at listed and group level she's had 18 starts for 10 wins - that's a great strike rate.
I only lease my share in her but I really do hope they can find her at least a listed race before she retires so her stud value jumps for the owners.

Another winner and another break

Picked up another good priced winner on top today but won't be doing any ratings for tomorrow - why? simple really, it takes me about 30 minutes per race and I can't really be bothered after a long day at work.

Something new for you
Hey All,
Yep, still alive and kicking - battling along but a little off starting up with this again.
However, on a brighter note I've been inspired by a post on Ausrace - an Australian horse racing email list - and dusted off an old rating systems I was playing around with a couple of years ago(on and off since).
Basically, they are time based ratings, with a twist, and extra bits built in to capture the form factors I consider important.
I won't go into too much detail for now, or possibly ever - if you can find an edge you need to keep it - but I'll post the results from today's little test and some ratings for tomorrow to see how they go.
I'll just post my top 5 raters for the quaddie legs - the prices might seem a bit strange, they are priced to 90% and are what spits out when I enter in all the numbers.

So not bad results at all with 3 out 4 top raters winning - only 2 at over my rating though - that won't continue but the ratings can throw up some good priced winners so I'll see how they go.

Happy New Year
Hey All,
I'm not ready to start betting yet, I'll probably hold off till February having the month off to work out my ideas.
I will make the effort to come and post some thoughts on the way through though, I have plenty. At the moment I just need to clear my head, get back into the right frame of mind and come back bigger and stronger then ever :)
2008 was a mixed year, good in some ways - not so in others - overall, I guess it balances out
2009 will be a good year all round :)
